The Postgraduate

The Postgraduate (2024) is a short film that explores the impact of unemployment on young people across Britain.

In a speech given in April 2024, Rishi Sunak PM suggested that people are unemployed because they choose to be. The Postgraduate is a film that responds directly to his words, displaying realistically what life is like for those who are unemployed. Compiled exclusively of 5 second long static shots, the film aims to shed light on the impacts of unemployment on recent graduates without directly telling the audience how to feel. The film was shot on location in a house rented by recent graduates, most of whom had been unemployed for at least six months at the time of filming. Nothing was contrived in any way; each shot displays the house as it was, from the peeling wallpaper to the mould growing in the damp corners of the dining room.
